Moonbase Remastered

Lately we came up with a couple of ideas. Short films are what we ultimately want to make, but we understand that it’s going to be hard road.

But it’s not a road we’re afraid to start walking. Our initial steps have been to go back on some old models and give them new life. It’s been interesting seeing a return to some old ideas, for one we’re looking to be less reliant on basic textures this time around.

To do this easily, we’ve been hammering out the methodology for a kit that should allow us to build any kind of corridor. Any kind of length, span, twisting and turning, at least that’s what we hope.

When we started the project that gave birth to these models, what was created was rather barebones. We even got some feedback from prospective audiences that they thought the film took place inside a cave. Well no more, we went back, looked at our initial concepts and decided “right, how can we put the quintessential feeling of space into these?” What we’ve gotten back so far appears to be going in the right direction.

They might still be rather dark, illuminated by only artifical light. But with this new kit our hope is we can at least give a feeling there are more places to go than the one or two rooms visited in the first story. There’s been a lot of fun devising greebles to give that technical look.

It’s still meant to be a multi-billion-dollar research base though. We’re still keeping in mind that there still needs to be some clean smoothness to it but our hope is the final product won’t be as barebones as it was last time. Even though untextured, the models so far are looking very space-y.

This isn’t the only space story we’ve got planned. We’ve been looking for interest in a little more of a heartwarming story that’s maybe not so confined. More on that when we have the details down and ironed.

Who knows, we might even make our kits available for other inspiring artists and directors.
